A number of factors affects the formation of the cost of in vitro fertilization including medical procedures, tests and examinations, such as preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). PGD is used to study the genome of the embryo and allows to select genetically healthy and high-quality embryos. For the analysis, cells forming the placenta are derived on the 3-5th day of embryo development. Then they undergo a certain processing and fixation, after which they are examined for the presence of chromosomal pathologies. In the course of this survey, the sex of the embryo is also determined, which is especially important if there is a risk of a genetic disease that is transmitted through human gender. A blastocyst with a normal amount of chromosomes is recommended for using and is implanted or frozen for storage under special conditions for subsequent use. Such diagnostics will increase the total cost by approximately $ 3,500 but is extremely important if the expectant parents or their blood relatives have genetic diseases or have a spontaneous miscarriage in the early stages of the mother’s history.
In some cases, couples fail to become happy parents due to the fact that for various reasons a woman cannot carry or give birth to a child. In this case, the problem can be solved with the help of a surrogacy program. This means that the father and mother will provide genetic material for fertilization, and another woman will give birth to a child for them. She will not be biologically connected with the child and after birth will not have the rights for the baby. Legal paternity is issued on genetic parents. Compensation for the services of a surrogate mother in Ukraine is estimated at an average of $ 19,000.
If a single parent or same-sex couple decided to resort to the IVF procedure, as well as if the genetic material of one of the parents is unsuitable for fertilization, you may need to use donor material - sperm or eggs. Donor germ cells are subjected to a series of tests and are quarantined for six months in order to completely eliminate any infections and conduct a full examination of the donor. If donor oocytes are used, the cost of IVF will have to be added to the cost of the procedure for the retrieval of sperm or oocyte, the cost of examinations, tests and other diagnostic procedures and compensation for the donor. This amount can be from 50 to 2000 $.
The procedure of in vitro fertilization cannot be strictly outlined unless lots of examinations are conducted. Thus, if you are committed to IVF, discuss with your fertility specialist all options for costs and programs. We are sure that the best possible solution will be found.
