Intracytoplasmic Microinjection (ICSI) Canadian Medical Care Surrogacy Clinic

ICSI (Intracytoplasmic sperm injection) is a procedure of an injection of sperm in the cytoplasm of the women’s egg and is done under a microscope using different micromanipulation devices. In order to obtain fertilization “in vitro”, it is necessary to add to each of the egg of at least 50,000 actively motile and morphologically normal sperm. Such an amount of sperm is not always possible to obtain the semen of men, which greatly reduces the effectiveness of the treatment of male infertility by IVF.

ICSI can significantly enhance the effectiveness of IVF – for example in a treatment of very severe forms of male infertility. This procedure of fertilization is effective even after a vasectomy (congenital abnormalities such as lack of ejaculatory ducts, or when in the ejaculate can be detected only a few sperm semen).

The technique of micromanipulation “injects” the sperm directly into the egg and thus achieves its fertilization. The possibility for pregnancy after using this method is the same as after the regular IVF procedure. Sometimes pregnancy is possible even in cases when there are no male ejaculate sperm: sperm (and sometimes sperm precursor cells) is obtained by puncture of the testicles and their appendages, and their injection into the egg. Thus fertilization is achieved.

ICSI and Children’s Health

Previously we expressed some doubts that the low-quality sperm can be used for ICSI, since there is a risk to transfer to the male-child the same defect, and possibly a genetic disorder, which led to this defect. But now the statistics prove the safety of ICSI – children born as a result of this procedure are is healthy and are no way different from normal children.

How is ICSI procedure being held?

With this method of fertilization an embryologist selects a sperm with a normal structure. The sperm is sucked into a very fine, glassed micro-needle and injected into the cytoplasm of the oocyte. A special microscopic sucker holds the oocyte at this time in place. The risk of damage the egg during ICSI is extremely low and does not exceed one percent. However, this possibility exists, which is why we trust this program only to highly qualified specialists. When making a choice look at the indicators of effectiveness of the procedure, the experience of medical staff, scientific and technical equipment of medical institutions.

The doctors of our clinic will answer all of your questions about the ICSI procedure and speak about the price of the procedure for the preparation for the injection of sperm into the egg.

In today’s world there are already about a million children born through the use of ICSI. There are a lot of reasons to expect that in the future this method will be increasingly used in ART clinics and it is possible that it will replace the practice of standard IVF.
